Properties of expanding foam

LMS Admin

Construction Foams are a “Gap Filling” Polyurethane Foam from a pressurized canister. They generally use a flammable gas as a propellant to get the product out of the canister.

Expanding Polyurethane Foams have the following attributes:

  • Expand
  • Insulate (when at a specified depth), both Thermally and Acoustic
  • Do not damage Polystyrene Foam
  • Adhere to many substrates & will not cause damage
  • Can be shaped and cut
  • Can be over-coated with many sealant types
  • Are moisture cured. If there is not sufficient moisture in the air then we need to add moisture.
  • Are not UV stable under normal outdoor environments.
  • Once the outer skin is broken the product will allow some moisture to penetrate.
  • Can be painted.
  • Can be built up in layers if you need to fill a void, allowing each layer to cure before applying the next (prevents new foam causing the collapse of the foam structure to “PU Gel” mess in the base of the void)
